2. Planimetric Map


Planimetric maps show horizontal distance on the earth's surface. They are two-dimensional and do not show elevation or topography. They are often used for street maps because they easily show a bird's-eye view of an area. This is a planimetric map of Portland, Oregon. It shows some roads and differentiates between some land types, but does not show elevation.
